Spring Break Day #1

Today I am attacking clothes. Here are some things I need to do:

1. Clean out drawers. I KNOW mine have stuff in them that doesn't fit or never gets worn. Bye bye.

2. Fold and put away. The laundry stacks around here are endless. PEOPLE THEY ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO BE PART OF THE DECOR. You'd never know around here.

3. Get a system going in the laundry room. Besides the current one of "throw your dirty clothes here on the floor and eventually I'll get to them." That one is not so lovely.

4. Figure out what to do with clothes that need ironing. Stacking them on the end of the ironing board is not working so well. I'd like to actually, you know, put the ironing board AWAY sometimes.

5. Fill many, many bags with giveaway clothes.

This is not my next thing to do on The House That Cleans Itself, but I decided it's important because we can't even get around in some rooms of our house (laundry room, my side of the bedroom where clean laundry goes to die) due to the clothing.

That will change today.

I'll let you know how it goes.

  1. You go, Brenda! In my laundry room, I have a hamper for the boy's clothes. They are in charge of bringing the dirty clothes from their room to the hamper. When it gets full, THEY are responsible for throwing it in the wash, and then folding it and putting it away. Get your girls to work!! ;-)

Still working on DH, though... lol!

  2. Yes, I think it's time to separate the laundry in that way. So where do you and your husband's clothes go? And what about towels, etc?

  3. Our clothes stay in our room until our laundry basket in our room is full (or I can't see the floor next to DH's side of the bed, lol!), then I take it and do our laundry. I do it all in one day and then fold and put away the same day, too. I have to, to keep the laundry cycle going efficiently!

Sheets and towels and kitchen rags go in a second hamper also in the laundry room. I do that as it gets full, which is usually every 2-3 days (we use all cloth in the kitchen instead of napkins and paper towels, so it adds up quickly). The kids also fold and put that away (score!) :-)

  4. We all have our own hampers in our rooms, and we just started the idea of the girls washing their own clothes when the hamper is full. I'll still be helping them hang outside to dry and stuff, but they can see when it's full.

And this way, if they don't want to do laundry so often, they'll stop putting clean things in there instead of their drawers...aha!!

  5. I already thought of that JulieMom!!!!! Or at least when they have worn something for 1 hour, they will stop and consider if it's REALLY worthy of being called "dirty." I've already made in instruction sheet with pictures for the 6 year old. Basically, they will sort together, SH will wash, LB will put in dryer, and they will fold and put away together. We are starting tomorrow. I can't wait.

I don't get to talk to a lot of actual grown-ups during the day, so your comments make me really happy! :)
