Please Watch Divided!

I have been wanting to watch this documentary for a while now and thankfully I found out it is online free until September. Please go and watch it. Basically, it's about youth groups. But it covers so much more than that.

I already know many of my readers will agree with it. I would like to hear feedback. I'll probably write what I think about the whole thing next week. It's very good and very thought-provoking. It also really was interesting to us as one of the reasons we were looking to change churches before August was that Sweetheart is entering 6th grade and was going to be expected to "join" the youth group. Also, the part about the origins of Sunday school was very interesting. You may remember I blogged about that a while back, but this gives even more information that I did not realize.

Here is the link where you can watch it free.

Or here is the official website where you can also watch it.

Let me know what you thought! And also, will it cause you to change anything in your life?

  1. I am incredibly grateful to my Youth group and find Sunday school to be a reasonable, and lovely, practice.

  5. Love this! So glad you posted. I watched the trailer a while back and was really glad to see the movie! We are dealing with the issue of Youth Group and not liking it one bit.
    Love your blog! Cassi

  6. I was intrigued. They didn't quite convince me, though, to make that leap from "this is the problem" to, "this is the cause".
As a homeschooling family, we see our Children's Church (our kids aren't old enough for youth group) not as a primary or even a large part of their spiritual education, but rather a safe place to socialize with other believers and get a fun Bible lesson as well. Kind of like a co-op on Sunday. I would no more expect the church to be responsible for my kids' education than I would the school. But I can see where that might not be the case for parents who are expecting more from the church...
Thanks for sharing the video, it gave me a lot of food for thought.

  7. Thanks for sharing this, Brenda! Hubby and I watched half of it last night and will finish it today (it was late when we started last night). I, for the most part, agree with the basic premise of the movie (which is why we attend a family integrated church), but I'll reserve my full opinion until I've seen the whole thing! I'm passing it along to my pastor and friends, too :-)

  8. Watched it last night with our house guests and all the children (ages 8-12). My 14 year old will watch it when she returns from travels.

Haven't supported youth 'ministry' in years, but watching this was a good reminder of all the many, many reasons why. I have to laugh though - youth 'ministry' not being biblical is the only reason we really need.

Praising God for our non-segregated church!

  10. Four Little Penguins, I think there is a huge difference between children's church and youth group. I know that they sound similar, but the expectations and influences in youth group are much, much, more in my opinion.

I don't get to talk to a lot of actual grown-ups during the day, so your comments make me really happy! :)
