One Last Fix

So....with the week we've had with Tourette Syndrome, and the unfruitful doctor visit, I took a trip to the bookstore.

I came home with this:

I read about it on Heather's site, OMSH. As soon as I saw it, I gulped and scrolled down quickly. Look away! I do not want to read that book!

But I bought it last night because:

1. S has diabetes.
2. Little Bit has TS.
3. Mommy is too squishy.
and suprisingly,
4. Miss Skinny-Minnie Sweetheart is probably the most hard-core sugar addict in this house.

We all need to get off the white stuff, is what I'm saying.

I'm only 15 pages into it and I just asked S to pick up a Twix for me at the store. I can tell I better eat it before I read any further.

Yes, I really did. It's sitting here beside me right now. Right by my new book. I love myself.

I was telling my friend about the book today and her high-tech self whipped out her Kindle and looked it up and found a book about getting children off of sugar by the same author. She's seriously looking at it for her son.

Anyway, I'll keep you posted. Just as soon as I wipe the chocolate off my face, I'm going to start reading.

  1. Now you just need a cola in your other hand to keep the Twix company :P

  2. this conversation, just even READING about this conversation makes me start twitching. I just got through reading more "information" about beef. I have a child with adhd, a child with processing disorders four of my five family members are overweight-- two of us by a lot and a daughter who although NOT over weight I am sure is not healthy. I want to NOT have this coversation. I want to just go about my merry way with my hands over my eyes and my fingers in my ears!

  3. Hang in there, Brenda. We're not dealing with the sugar issue-yet-but if it's anything like giving up gluten (which, my heavens, is in almost everything!), I know what you're feeling. I didn't even realize how much processed stuff we still eat, even though I cook almost every meal from scratch.

It is proving to be an uphill climb. However, I'm determined to do this for my baby girl, and so we forge on. She's still scratching less than normal. It's day 3.

  4. OK, just put the book on hold at the library. We're not junkies, but always room for improvement. We have one with high blood pressure, one about 20# overweight w arthritis, one with a little tummy, and twins with cumulative cognitive deficit - it can't hurt!

But yeah . . . going to eat a twix before the book comes in!

  5. Okay your mentioning of the Twix is about to make me fall smooth off this diet wagon. Like, really. I haven't given up sugar, but I have given up junk food and sodas. And gluttonous eating. But in 2 weeks my double chin is already missing, my upper arms are much less flappy, I'm down into the 120s (okay, 129, but it counts!) and my kids hugged me and said I felt different!! Why did I wait so long?! You can do this!!

I don't get to talk to a lot of actual grown-ups during the day, so your comments make me really happy! :)
