Help for the Homeschooler: One Last Thing

For now.

I am going to be busy, busy, busy today so I won't be throwing posts at you right and left, OK Karly? :)

But I wanted to say this. With all of our planning and taking control of our homeschool year, there is something we need to remember: we are not in charge.

Proverbs 16:9
In his heart a man plans his course, but the LORD determines his steps.

Pray. Pray. And pray some more. Your schedule will get thrown off. Your plan might not work. We do not know what tomorrow holds--but God does. Depend on Him and commit the educating of your children to Him. It isn't really about themes and subjects and activities--it's about training our children in the way they should go. Remember that.

And also, remember what matters most.

  1. How encouraging this is to me this morning (especially since I was up WAY too late planning last night!)

Yep, He and His Will comes first, doesn't it? Thank you for the reminder, friend. :)

    Enjoy your day!

  2. I have been lurking for awhile on here...I found you through Suzanne, the Joyful Chaos. I love your blog. I have tears in my eyes after reading your post about what really matters. I am a foster parent, 3 of my own, 2 fosters, one of those being special needs...and I have had a rough day. I needed to be reminded of what our love for him is doing for his development. Thank you for sharing it. I have an aunt who has been very hard on me, telling me that my kids weren't learning enough b/c I am too busy caring for my foster babies...which I don't believe...but doubt myself when she tells me those things. My children are learning so much in our families journey....and not just from books. Thank you, I needed to read this today.

  3. Right on! Sometimes I get overwhelmed with trying to plan and make sure all the classes end on the same day, etc. When I really need to remember just to do what God puts in front of me today.

I can plan all I want, but like you said, God is ultimately in control of what happens. Thanks for the reminder!

  4. You know Brenda, I don't homeschool but I love reading all about your journey with it. And even though I don't homeschool, I still kearn so much from what you have to share! This reminder could really be applied to any area of our life that we are working on or planning for. Thank you for the reminder :)

Hope you are doing well! Even though Fitness Friday is on hold (I hope only on hold!) I hope you are keeping track of your goals and focusing on them too!!!

  5. Brenda,
Thank you for taking the time to write and post this series. I do not homeschool (its not financially possible for me to stay home, as my husband is disabled), but I do teach at a Baptist university. I have been able to adapt some of your ideas for my college students. This is only my second year teaching, so I am grateful for help and ideas wherever I find them.

I don't get to talk to a lot of actual grown-ups during the day, so your comments make me really happy! :)
