The Project Has Begun!

I finally completed all my unfinshed projects except Sweetheart's valance. Sorry. I have a really great explanation.

Here it is: My "sewing machine table" is actually our camping table. So, I didn't get the valance sewn in time and it was time to pack for camping and I had to clear off my sewing stuff to get the camp table out of the sewing room. After we got home, it seemed prudent to go ahead and start re-doing that room since most of the stuff was out of there already.

See?

Then my sister had to point out how I could set the sewing machine up on the dining room table like SHE has to do. Yeah, that's going to happen.

My husband is working crazy long hours right now so I decided I needed to start this project myself. The sheetrock in that room is fine, they just did a really poor job of taping and floating it. So, I watched a few videos on YouTube and thought, "That doesn't look so hard." Here is where I would post a picture of my taping and floating job, which is half-way through. However, I fear that one of your husbands or fathers or some other man-type figure might walk through the room while you are reading this post, see the picture, and have a medical emergency. I personally think I'm doing a great job, but I realize most men would not agree. It's going to be all good. Texture can solve any problems.

After I finish the walls, I'll paint. Then you can see a picture. And I know I said I was going to try not to buy anything new for this project, but I haven't had any luck finding a table or desk to fit in the nook. I've checked Freecycle, the Salvation Army store, and e-mailed my homeschool group. So, plan B is to use one 2 drawer filing cabinet, a piece of wood, and 2 pre-made legs to fashion a desk. Can you picture it?

It's going to be great!

  1. Brenda, I think you are doing a great job, too! I am very happy for you and your work, and I can't wait to see the finished product.

And, if my husband walked by while seeing your pics, he would probably say, "Hey, she can do sheetrock, you should do something like that!" Not really... but he would admire you like I do! :)

  2. I am completely impressed-sewing and sheetrocking! I had a button pop off of a shirt today, and it might be weeks before I tackle putting that thing on. Way to go!

  5. I'm impressed, Brenda! I don't think I'd take on sheetrock. Painting, yes, but I'd be intimidated by the thought of sheetrock. I'm certain you'll do a great job.

I don't get to talk to a lot of actual grown-ups during the day, so your comments make me really happy! :)
