Interestingly, it came up in our family devotion time, not by me, but by my husband! We have not had cable TV in years, but we do still allow movies and Wii. The movies we allow are known and always pre-screened by us (after a mistake with Shark Tales once way back when that came out!).

The point of of discussion during family devotions was that it's not necessarily about setting "rules", but more of drawing close to God and seeing His beauty and preciousness so much that this other filth becomes just that in our eyes - filth. Guidelines (rules) and parameters/restrictions are beneficial and helpful, but as Christians, our goal not to be just "moral" people, checking off our "what we do right" list, but instead being transformed by our intimacy with the Holy Spirit so that our hearts no longer desire or are attracted to sin.

We, as Christians, should flee from sin, and live out the Word, which clearly says (as you've mentioned), not to put any evil before our eyes, and to give no appearance of evil ourselves. To think on things that are pure, righteous, lovely, and so on. Not to lift ourselves up and be proud about how "good" we are, but because Christ has rescued us from that pit and we are now free from the restraints of SIN. Why turn back to it?! (as Jesus said, "Remember Lot's wife"!)

See, I started out not knowing what to say and now I've written a thesis on the issue. Anywhooo, I appreciate your posts on the matter!Erinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09932119838113244830noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1686582774155973298.post-1971168366835617852011-06-10T06:57:04.897-05:002011-06-10T06:57:04.897-05:00Thank you for this. In fact he just bought a 50 inch tv for the gameroom, put HD/DVR Direc TV up there and NOW wants streaming Netflix too. Me, I have my shows I watch, but honestly, I could live without any tv. I guess I need to pray about this situation!

I am looking forward to your next post on the topic.Maryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14479304857245688749noreply@blogger.com
